Hawk Head Parrot.
Gets it’s name from the similar appearance to a hawk.
Aratingidae / Amazoninae:
Genus Deroptyus:
The Hawk-headed Parrots are a monotypic genus which consists of two races. In most taxonomic systems this genus is placed between Amazons and the Purple-bellied Parrot (Triclaria) which in this system makes its own subfamily. In this system the Hawk-headed Parrot is listed under subfamily Amazoninae, because of its amazon-like appearance though the relationship to Amazons and the Purple-bellied Parrot have to be proved. Remarkable are the prolonged feathers at the hindneck, which will be raised when the bird is exited.
Deroptyus accipitrinus - The Hawk-headed Parrot.
Distribution:
D.a. accipitrinus: North of Amazon river to N-Brazil, W-Guianas to SE-Colombia D.a. fuscifrons: South of Amazon river, NE-Brazil to N-Mato Grosso.
Description: - Length: 35 cm
Plumage: Forehead and crown white, ear coverts cheek and throat brown, streaked with white, periophthalmic ring greyish-brown; prolonged feathers of hindneck red, broadly edged with blue; breast red, edged with blue. Wing coverts green Rounded tail, longer than in Amazons, underpart maroon, upper part green. Flanks and "socks" green. Bill greyish brown Legs greyish brown Iris yellow.
Habitat:
Forests of the tropical zone.

Black Capped Lorikeet.
Notice the bright red and black with patches of bright blue on the body, and green on the wings, a very stricking bird.
This Lorikeet is not an Australian bird. Black Cappes are available now in Australia but they are not very common.
This makes them hard to find and expensive to purchase.

Galah.
A member of the Cockatoo family. As you can see these birds have a beautiful deep pink body with grey wings - an unusual combination in the bird world.
The Galah - Cacatua roseicapilla.
Distribution: ( Australia ) The Galah has a very wide range, practically anywhere in Australia even Tasmania.
Habitat: Open country with suitable trees, mainly on watercourses. Expansion of grasslands, cereal crops and scattered waterholes and tanks has greatly expanded habitat - towns, parks and even beaches.

Alexandrine Parrot.
A very large red Beak against a green coloured body, with a black ringed neck.
The size of the Beak puts some people off having them as a pet.
But they are a good pet especially when tame, and have a gentle nature.
Related to the Indian Ringneck Parrot, which looks similar but is much smaller.
Distribution: India/Asia.
A Parrot that has become more available in Australia. And not hard to find now that it has become more common.
Habitat: Large bush and tree covered areas, where they can find nuts and seeds. Usually not too far from a fresh water supply.
