TIDDALICK
(An adaptation of an Aboriginal Dreamtime Legend)
by Andrew, Alex, Ciara, Makaila & Samantha

Once upon a time in the Dreaming time was a frog called Tiddalick. Tiddalick was a giant frog and he was always thirsty. One day he went to a river to drink and drank all the water until there was none left.

Frog / Tiddalick:
-
Tiddalick was still thirsty and went looking for more water. He drank all the water from the billabongs and lakes. Now there was no water left for the other animals.

The animals decided to have a meeting. They were worried that if the water stayed inside Tiddalick, they would die of thirst.

An owl suggested:
- If we could make him laugh, the water might come out of his mouth.

Kookabarra said:
- I’ll make him laugh with my jokes.

But Tiddalick didn’t laugh.

Kangaroo:
- Then kangaroo and wombat played leapfrog, hoping to make him laugh.

Still Tiddalick didn’t laugh.

Frill Necked Lizard walked pant Tiddalick, putting out his frill.
Tiddalick almost fell asleep.

Eel:
- Then eel tired, slithering and tumbling his body in knots.

Tiddalick was amazed and laughed. His tummy began to rumble, sounding like a wave. All the water gushed out of his mouth and filled the rivers, billabongs and lakes.

All the animals shouted:
- Hooray !

There was now water for them to drink. Tiddalick jumped away and was never seen again.
